NPHA members are exclusively approved to provide lodging, food services, gifts and souvenirs, equipment rentals, transportation and other visitor services in the National Park System. Many of the 280+ million park visitors per year are served by concessioners. NPHA members have a combined workforce of nearly 25,000 persons and provide in excess of $1.2 billion in goods and services to visitors annually, and provide $100 million per year to the Park Service budget. Concessioner marketing and promotion efforts total more than $10 million, and are coordinated with the marketing and promotion efforts of state and gateway communities that equal that amount.

WE REPRESENT AMERICA’S NATIONAL PARK CONCESSIONERS

OUR PRIORITIES

Accessibility

Parks should be accessible to everyone. Members of the National Park Hospitality Association are committed to preserving access to all National Parks for all people. Not everybody can don a backpack and trek across the wilderness. But with responsible management of the parks, and services provided in them, everyone can come and experience the wonder and joy of these “wild” places.

Public/Private Partnerships

Public/private partnership is the way to get things done. The NPS has been entrusted to preserve our parks for the enjoyment, education and inspiration of current and future generations. As private, for profit entities, NPHA members are motivated to provide quality services, lodging, food and beverages, and recreational activities for visitors. These public and private interests come together to give the parks' visitors memorable experiences.

Visitor Enjoyment

Our parks are more than just a quick vacation stop on the way to somewhere else. NPHA members provide many conveniences to make visitor experiences at our parks more enjoyable. We know how special our national parks are, and as the stewards of such exceptional places we have the opportunity and responsibility to share these resources through services to the park visitors.

Environmental Stewardship

Park units should be preserved for visitors. While accommodating visitors, the national parks must be preserved. Members of the NPHA are doing their part by implementing aggressive environmental initiatives—ranging from recycling waste to purchasing environment-friendly cleaning supplies to challenging and rewarding employees for developing innovative practices and policies.

Our Mission

The National Park Hospitality Association will assist park concessioners and allies to be outstanding partners to the National Park Service in fulfilling the directions of the Congress and the President regarding management of the national park system while providing premier services to and opportunities for outstanding experiences by park visitors appropriate to the units in which the concessioners operate.

Our Goals

  • Partner with the NPS to provide exceptionally positive experiences to visitors.
  • Increase opportunities for these experiences by encouraging visits to, and enjoyment of appropriate activities in, national park units at sustainable levels.
  • Expand opportunities for concessioner-provided services where appropriate and viable.
  • Secure the active support of park visitors for protection of park resources, for provision of adequate visitor accommodations and service, and for continued park access for all people.
  • Continue effective liaison with Congress regarding relevant park legislation and regulations.
  • Create and sustain a close and trusting relationship between the NPS and the concessions industry.
  • Build bridges of cooperation and shared rights with the Department of the Interior and the NPS at all levels of management.

The work of accommodating visitors and helping to preserve the parks' resources are enterprises shared by the concessioners and the NPS - and they are not responsibilities taken on lightly. As Theodore Roosevelt one said:

“Far and away the best prize that life offers is the chance to work hard at work worth doing.”
